Cox set for new Beechdown role
05/09/2006 - 11:48:34Clive Cox is switching from employee to employer by buying Beechdown stables in Lambourn from the Elite Racing Club.
Although Britain’s racing club have moved stable star New Seeker and the two-year-old Tredegar to Paul Cole, they intend to continue to support Cox.
“Basically, Clive is buying the training business from the club. He’ll become the employer of all his staff and in charge at Beechdown,” said Elite’s racing manager Matthew Budden.
“All the business of the yard is owned by Elite Racing Club – or Elite Training which is part of the club – and Clive was an employee.
“He’s going to take it over and become the employer himself.
“We’ve got 10 syndicate horses there which are actually separate from Elite Racing Club but they are part of the businesses that we have and there are no plans to move them.
“Elite Racing Club itself plans to probably send him at least one yearling this year and continue to support the yard.
“New Seeker and Tredegar have both gone to Paul Cole. New Seeker has a sales entry at Newmarket. He maybe sold, if not Paul may campaign him in Dubai in the New Year.
“Paul has trained members of Tredagar’s family, Brecon Beacon and Eisteddfod, which are out of one of our mares.
“Tredegar has had the one promising run and ready to run again and we’ll see how he gets on.”
