Classic duo lead 39 in Leger
13/07/2005 - 08:31:01Walk In The Park and Scorpion, second in the English and Irish Derby respectively, head 39 entries for the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster on September 10.
The former, trained by John Hammond, found only Motivator too strong at Epsom and could be joined on Town Moor by five of his rivals from the Derby.
They are David Wachman’s Fracas (fourth), the Clive Brittain-trained Hattan (sixth), John Dunlop’s Unfurled (seventh), David Elsworth’s The Geezer (eighth) and Kong (13th), who is also handled by Dunlop.
Scorpion, who came off second-best to French raider Hurricane Run at the Curragh, is the 3-1 market leader with the sponsors, while the third home Shalapour is next at 6-1.
The pair head a strong Irish entry, with Scorpion’s handler Aidan O’Brien, successful in the race two years ago with Brian Boru and with Milan in 2001, having a total of seven entries including last month's Hampton Court Stakes winner Indigo Cat.
Last year’s victorious connections Godolphin have six entries headed by Perfectperformance, who has been off the track since October having previously won the Group Two Royal Lodge Stakes.
