Bush considering Liberia action
03/07/2003 - 12:33:41President George Bush is expected to decide today whether to send US peacekeeping troops to the war-torn West African nation of Liberia.
The move is said to be opposed by US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other top Pentagon officials.
Washington has been asked to send 2,000 soldiers to lead another 3,000 peacekeepers from various African countries that would aim to stabilise the capital Monrovia.
“It’s in play,” one White House official told The Washington Times of the option to send soldiers.
Bush has said he is looking at “all the options”.
