Bruton: Nama will not change bank behaviour
22/10/2009 - 11:38:06Fine Gael finance spokesperson Richard Bruton said the legislation establishing the National Assets Management Agency (Nama) will do nothing to change the behaviour of Irish banks.
Mr Bruton was speaking this morning as the Oireachtas Finance Committee began its examination of the bill to set up Nama.
The committee-stage debate is being held in the Dáil chamber to allow all TDs to participate if they wish.
Mr Bruton told the meeting that Nama would be exploited by the banks to their own benefit and the culture that led to the current crisis would continue unchanged.
"I do not see the radical change in the behaviour or the ethic of the banking system that is required," he said.
