Bomb blast damages Corsican restaurant

08/07/2005 - 15:09:51

An overnight bomb attack partially destroyed a restaurant in eastern Corsica, but caused no injuries.

An explosive device was discovered on the terrace of the Punta Marina restaurant in the resort town of Moriani, police said.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility.

However, the French Mediterranean island has suffered more than two decades of low-level violence by organised crime gangs and separatists seeking independence from France.

Many bomb attacks occur at night, when buildings are empty.
