IMPACT says the threat of 1,100 redundancies at Aer Lingus is a "serious situation".

It comes after cabin crew at the airline rejected the company's €97m cost cutting plan.

IMPACT had recommended acceptance of the deal, which was brokered at the Labour Relations Commission before Christmas.

A result of a vote on the deal by craft workers at the airline is expected this lunchtime.

General Secretary Designate of IMPACT Shay Cody is hopeful a solution can be found.

"It’s serious situaion but the company have stated that they won't be commenting on it until all the results are in," Mr Cody said.

"It's a difficult situation but there is always a solution can be found."
