A woman escaped injury early this morning at her Co Tyrone house when a petrol bomb was thrown at her home while she was sleeping.

The device set fire to the front door of the house at Castlecaulfield, outside Dungannon, but the woman was able to put out the flames, leaving only minor scorch damage.

Security forces in the town believe they also thwarted another pipe bomb attack when a routine patrol discovered two pipe bombs along with gloves in a bag at the entrance to a housing estate.

Meanwhile, a section of the Dublin-Belfast rail line remains closed between Newry and Dundalk as searches continue for the site of an explosion reported in south Co Down three days ago.

Passengers are being transferred between the two points by bus.
