Protected witness Charles Bowden has admitted the murder of Veronica Guerin was not the only shooting he was involved in.

Bowden told the trial of John Gilligan that not only did he prime the murder weapon in the journalist's killing, but also in the attempted murder of a Dublin criminal, and in addition to being an integral part of a drugs business worth millions of pounds, he was also the quartermaster for the criminal gang.

Asked by Gilligan's counsel Michael O'Higgins SC how many murders he had participated in, Bowden replied :"One - the murder of Veronica Guerin. Well, two - the attempted murder of Martin Foley."

Foley, a Dublin criminal known as 'The Viper' was injured in a gun attack in the mid-90s.

Bowden said he loaded the gun used in the attack, and listened to Garda activity on a scanner while the shooting was taking place.

He also confirmed that he had never been interviewed by the Criminal Assets Bureau in relation to his ill-gotten gains.
