Soccer: Hendry desperate for Scotland recall

Colin Hendry is hoping his superb performances for Bolton will help him earn his 50th cap for Scotland.

Colin Hendry is hoping his superb performances for Bolton will help him earn his 50th cap for Scotland.

Hendry has been earning rave reviews for the Trotters since his move from Coventry in December and shone again in his side's 1-1 FA Cup draw with Blackburn.

Now he is setting his sights on a return to the Scotland squad.

Craig Brown's side face two home World Cup qualifiers next month, including a crucial game against Belgium.

And the former Scots skipper harbours dreams of leading his country all the way to football's showpiece event in 2002.

Hendry told Ananova.com: "I would just like to play again for my country, and if it's my 50th cap then that's all well and good.

"It's a major personal milestone but the fact that we are going quite well and looking good for the World Cup is far more important to me than any individual thing.

"Individuals will obviously know how many apperances they've made but it is about Scotland being in the World Cup next year."

Hendry had found himself surplus to requirements at both Rangers then Coventry.

But in typical style the centre-half has bounced back and is now playing a major part in Bolton's bid to return to the Premiership.

News of his return to form hasn't gone unnoticed, either.

Hendry added: "I've just heard a couple of bits of feedback about my form and they have been very positive.

"Craig has been a major influence on my career and I've enjoyed everything I've done with him, and I've had fun with him.

"It's important for Craig to try and build, it's important that the country continues to develop players and that players keep on coming through.

"On a personal note he said that if I'm out there and I'm doing it, that's the most important thing for him.

"I don't know if he has been at the grounds watching me, or if he has just been watching on TV. Either way, he'll get another chance on Friday night."

Friday night sees Bolton's televised clash with Blackburn in the league, which will be the two side's third meeting in 19 days.
