The execution of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh may be shown on closed circuit television.
Officials are considering the move because of the large number of people who might want to watch him die.
More than 1,100 victims and relatives have been asked if they want to attend McVeigh's execution on May 16.
McVeigh is due to die by lethal injection at the federal prison on Terre Haute, Indiana, for blowing up the Alfred P Murrah Federal Building in 1995.
The blast killed 168 people and left more than 500 injured, in the most serious act of terrorism on US soil. But the prison only has eight seats from which the public can view executions directly.
Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesman Dan Dunne said the execution may be shown in an Oklahoma courtroom via closed circuit television. This has never been done before, but no there is no law against it.
McVeigh's attorney Nathan Chambers said: "It's an interesting issue. If someone makes a formal application to do that, we'll address that."
