Bombers target blast victim's neighbours

RUC detectives are investigating another sectarian bomb attack on a Catholic family.

A pipe bomb has been thrown into the house in Larne, Co Antrim, 24 hours after a neighbouring Catholic family escaped injury when a similar device exploded in their living room, narrowly missing a mother and her son.

In the latest attack the device was thrown through the kitchen window but failed to explode and the occupants, a family of six, were uninjured.

The local SDLP Assembly Member Danny O'Connor has branded loyalists behind the continuing spate of attacks in the area as "bigoted thugs".

Mr O'Connor said many in the Catholic community were living in terror.

He said: "I know people in the town who fill buckets of water before they go to bed at night in case they have to put out an unexpected fire in the middle of the night.

"It's about time people in their beds in this town didn't have to worry about whether they are going to be burned to death before they wake up in the morning."
