Jimmy Gulzar has been convicted of assaulting Mel B's younger sister Danielle Brown.

The Spice Girl's former husband was found guilty of common assault at Highbury Magistrates Court, North London.

He was fined £400 and ordered to pay £400 compensation to Ms Brown and £200 costs.

Dressed in a grey overcoat and spectacles, Gulzar showed no emotion and stared fixedly forward for the verdict.

During his trial at the same court last month former Emmerdale actress Ms Brown said Gulzar lifted her off the ground by her throat and spat in her face.

She had gone to his home in Hampstead, north London, on August 6 last year to pick up Phoenix Chi, his 18-month-old daughter with Mel B.
