Pat Hickey, the head of the Olympic Council of Ireland, says that he wants to heal the rifts that have emerged during his previous years as president.
Speaking after the meeting, in which he fended off a challenge to his leadership from Richard Burrows, Mr. Hickey said that he was overwhelmed with the result.
He won the contest by 27 votes to 10 meaning that he holds on to the position he has held for the past 12 years.
