New government jet likely due to repeated faults

A new larger government jet may be ordered after a fresh alert surrounding the existing plane.

A new larger government jet may be ordered after a fresh alert surrounding the existing plane.

An order is likely to be placed for a converted Boeing commercial jet following reports that some officials and ministers fear flying in the current plane, a ten-year-old Gulfstream.

The £25m jet is now in Switzerland for technical checks after it developed a second fault in a week.

The increasing number of apparent faults is believed to be making the Taoiseach uneasy about using the plane. It is expected an order will be placed for a larger Boeing jet before the end of the year.
