The new Fine Gael leader Michael Noonan will name his front bench this afternoon.
It is expected there will be fewer players on Mr Noonan's team than on that of his predecessor John Bruton.
The former leader had a shadow cabinet of 23 but Deputy Noonan has indicated he will select only 15 or 17, each with a larger portfolio to deal with.
Defeated leadership candidate Enda Kenny and Alan Dukes are expected to be two of those, with Dukes likely to receive the finance post.
The announcement will be made this afternoon at 3pm.
