The other Irish, David Higgins and Paul McGinley, lie one under at the clubhouse, with home favourite Hennie Otto leading on nine under.

Meanwhile, Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn moved into contention for his sixth European tour title after carding a second round of 67 for a five under par halfway total of 139, just three shots off the clubhouse lead held by South African Roger Wessels.
