Nun dies after handbag snatch

Gardai in Co Kildare have launched an investigation after an elderly nun collapsed and died in a Garda station. The 74-year old was reporting a handbag snatch at around 11.00am in Athy.

Gardai in Co Kildare have launched an investigation after an elderly nun collapsed and died in a Garda station. The 74-year old was reporting a handbag snatch at around 11.00am in Athy.

While reporting the incident on Stanhope Street in the town, she had a seizure, collapsed and died.

Her body has been taken to Naas General Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be carried out. Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the handbag snatch to contact them in Athy on (0507) 31669.
