Australian Open: Blast from the past
A "grip it and rip it" approach helped veteran Australian Peter Fowler produce his best round since 1983 to earn a share of the lead after the first round of the Australian Masters in Melbourne.
The 41-year-old took his caddy's advice to "go out and play golf", foregoing his usual meticulous preparation, and was rewarded with a seven-under-par 65.
Young amateur Michael Cocking matched Fowler at the top of an all-Austrian leaderboard, with pre-tournament favorite Sergio Garcia struggling at three-over.
