Jennifer Capriati reached her second successive Australian Open semi-final.
She beat Monica Seles 5-7 6-4 6-3 in Melbourne.
The 24-year-old New Yorker showed real battling qualities having lost the first set and been 4-2 down in the second.
But she won the next four games and then the first four of the deciding set as well.
Seles got one of the breaks back, but Capriati, who prior to the event last year had not appeared in a semi-final since she was 15, held firm and broke Seles again for victory.
A delighted Capriati said: "I felt the first set should have been mine so I didn't change my game plan.
"What I was doing was good. I just wanted to cut down on my errors and just execute my shots better - and that's what I did.
"She started missing and before I knew it I had won the second set and then the match.
"I'm so happy. Your personal life comes first and then the tennis sort of follows that.
"I can't give you a specific moment things started turning round in my life. It just started happening and every day is a change and a growing experience.
"It's very important to have a support group around you which stays closely-knit. Alone it's very hard to do - I don't think anyone can do that. You can't just trust a lot of people."
