Ireland pledges £1m relief for devastated India

The Government is donating up to £1 million to the relief effort in India following yesterday's devasting earthquake.

£250,000 is being sent immediately to the Red Cross.

The Junior Minister for Foreign Affairs, Liz O’Donnell, said she has been in touch with the Irish Embassy in Delhi and is monitoring the situation.

The remaining funds will be made available when a clear picture of needs emerges from the Gujarat region.
