A young man was killed early today after he was struck by a van in Co Carlow.

A young man was killed early today after he was struck by a van in Co Carlow.

The collision happened on the Tullow to Ballon Road in the townland of Ardristan, Tullow at about 5am today.

The unidentified male pedestrian was fatally injured when he was struck by a van. The van driver was uninjured.

The man who died is described as in his mid 20s, over 6 ft in height, well built and with short red hair. His body has been removed to Waterford Regional Hospital.

The road is currently closed as Garda Forensic Collision investigators are at scene and local diversions are in place.
