A 25-year-old prisoner has been found dead in his cell at Limerick Prison.

A 25-year-old prisoner has been found dead in his cell at Limerick Prison.

The man, who is believed to have been serving a sentence for manslaughter, was found at about 4am today.

It is believed he died of a drug overdose. The man was originally from Co Tipperary.

Members of An Garda Siochana and the Prison Service, are conducting separate investigations surrounding the man's sudden death as a matter of standard procedure.

The Prison Service said they would not be releasing the man's name until his relatives are informed.
