Work syndicate wins €156,002 on Euromillions

A group of work colleagues from Wicklow have started the Halloween Bank Holiday with a bang!

The 24-strong syndicate from Arklow in Wicklow won €156,002 in Tuesday night's EuroMillions draw on October 25 when they matched five numbers and one Lucky star.

The lucky colleagues aged in their late 30's to early 60's work together at the County Wicklow Partnership, a local development company that supports communities, individuals and businesses in Wicklow.

Speaking today about what the win means to the group, syndicate spokesperson Eibhlis Forde said, "A win of €6,500 each, two months before Christmas?! This means everything to us! Santy will be very good this year!!”

The syndicate have played the EuroMillions game together since 2009. The lucky ticket was bought in Dunnes Stores in the Bridgewater Centre in Arklow, and they were the first to highlight to Eibhlis that they had sold a big winning ticket.

“Every week I buy a Quick Pick in the Dunnes for the EuroMillions draw. When I went in on Wednesday, the shop assistant said: Have your checked your ticket Eibhlis? There was a big win. I went back to the office and checked the results on the National Lottery App which I have on my phone. I got the message, Congratulations, you’ve won! We’re in an open-plan office so I called everyone out onto to the floor to tell them – there was great excitement!” continued Eibhlis.

“We’re all delighted and the money means so much to everyone individually, especially at this time of the year. One of the guys wanted a new car for ages, so he can get it now. And another was about to take out a loan to pay her two daughters college fees. The win covers those fees. It will be a happy Christmas for us all!
