Women's group demands new laws to combat online stalking and revenge porn

Women's Aid is calling for a change in the law to tackle digital abuse of women.

A recent study in the UK found that 41% of abused women experienced abuse online and forms of technological stalking.

Women's Aid wants to see laws protect women from online harassment and stalking, including the takedown of revenge porn.

Garda Commissioner Noirin O’Sullivan said it is important that legislation keeps up to date with the times.

"Whether it's domestic violence or stalking, many of the actions that affect women are the criminal equivalent of a virus - because just like a virus, crime morphs and it changes," she said.

"And it outpaces the first solution - the magic bullet that's incomprehensible forever when it was first introduced.

"I always think about how quickly things change, and how we must always morph and adapt."
