A woman has been taken to hospital after she was rescued from a burning building in Limerick City.

A woman has been taken to hospital after she was rescued from a burning building in Limerick City.

The fire broke out at a vacant building on Broad Street shortly after 1pm this afternoon.

The woman, who was semi-unconscious from the effects of smoke inhalation, was rescued by a fire officer from an upstairs room.

Three units of Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service and a fire tender from Shannanon, Co Clare attended the scene.

Investigations are underway into the cause of the blaze.
