Woman recovering after attack on residential street in Rathmines

A man is due in court this morning in connection with an assault on a young woman on the southside of Dublin.

It happened on a residential street in Rathmines in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The victim, a 22-year-old woman, told gardaí she was walking along Effra Road at round 12.30am yesterday when she was grabbed from behind.

She said her attacker punched her and dragged her to the ground.

Following a brief struggle, the woman's screams were heard by some passersby who were on their way home after a night out.

They rushed over to help her and the attacker fled the scene.

Gardaí were given a description of the man and a 49-year-old was arrested a short time later.

He is due to appear before Dublin District Court later this morning.

Meanwhile, the victim is said to be recovering from her ordeal.

Gardaí say she is still shaken by what happened, but was lucky to escape with just minor injuries.
