A woman aged in her early 60s was killed in a road accident in Co Offaly today.

A woman aged in her early 60s was killed in a road accident in Co Offaly today.

The collision occurred at approximately 11:20am on the N52 Kilcormac to Tullamore road just outside Kilcormac, when a car and a transport lorry were in collision.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured in the collision.

The driver and passenger of the car, both women in their 60s, were transferred to Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore for treatment.

The passenger of the car is receiving treatment and her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the hospital, however.

The road was closed for a time to facilitate a forensic collision investigation but has since reopened.
