Woman in her 70s killed by cattle on farm

An elderly woman in Derry has been killed by cattle on a farm.

The woman, who is said to be in her 70s, is reported to have died while working on a farm in Garvagh, Co. Derry, yesterday.

The area's MLA Adrian McQuillan said the local community was shocked at the news.

The DUP MLA for East Derry said: "This news is very shocking to the entire close-knit community of Garvagh and the surrounding areas.

"The family were well-known in the farming community and I understand the woman in her 70s was killed by cattle on the family farm, this evening.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this deeply distressing time."

The North's Health and Safety Executive has confirmed that it is investigating the incident.
