Woman charged following Drogheda murder

A 40-year old-woman has appeared in court charged with murdering Wayne McQuillan at their home in Drogheda yesterday morning.

Paula Farrell of Rathmullen Park has been remanded in custody to appear in court again next Wednesday.

30-year-old Wayne McQuillan died after he was stabbed during a New Year’s row at his home in Drogheda.

Gardai had to bring him to hospital in a squad car because it took an ambulance almost half an hour to respond to a 999 call.

This evening dressed in dark trousers, a cream sweater and a denim jacket, 40-year-old Paula Farrell appeared at a late sitting of Dublin District court charged with his murder.

Garda Andrew Corbett gave evidence that she was cautioned and made no reply when the charge was put to her at Drogheda Garda Station this afternoon.

She has been granted legal aid and remanded in custody to appear at Drogheda District Court next Wednesday.

Her solicitor raised concerns about her health and Judge Michael Walsh has directed that Paula Farrell receive appropriate medical attention – both physical and psychiatric – while she is in custody.
