A woman was hit with a brush and had her car window broken after disturbing thieves at her Co Down home today.

The victim, 48, and her daughter, 21, arrived at the house in Cortamlat Road, Newry, this afternoon to find three intruders emerging from it.

Several rooms had been ransacked.

They were threatened by the robbers, then the older woman was attacked with the brush.

She sustained minor injuries and when she sought cover in her car, a man smashed the window, grabbing a handbag.

The gang, accompanied by a fourth man, escaped in a Vauxhall Vectra.

Detectives appealed for anybody with information to contact them.
