Update 5.53pm: A fire which has left a mother and three young children in hospital is now being treated as suspicious, according to investigating Gardaí.

The fire occured at a flat at Tyrone Place, Inchicore around 11pm. The family were unable to get out of the flat as their only exit, the front door, was blocked.

The woman, in her 30s and named locally as Maggie Greene, was rescued from the first floor of the complex in the Inchicore area of Dublin but was fighting for her life at St James's Hospital.

An 8-year-old male and a 12 year old male were taken to Crumlin Children’s hospital where the 8 year old is described as being in a critical condition.

A 7-year-old girl was taken to Temple Street Hospital for treatment.

This incident is now being treated as suspicious.

The scene has been preserved and a technical examination is ongoing.

Investigating Gardai are seeking witnesses to this incident or to anyone who was in the vicinity of Tyrone place between 10.30pm and 12 midnight on yesterdays date ( 18/9/17) to contact them at Kilmainham Garda Station on 01- 666 9700, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Update 3.23pm: Neighbours have spoken out about helping to rescue a family who were caught up in a fire at their Inchicore flat.

A woman and her eight year old son are in a critical condition following the blaze while her two other children have non life threatening injuries.

A witness has described hearing the woman screaming for help.

"She was screaming for help, it was awful," she said.

"It was the quickest I've ever seen a fire brigade getting onto a scene but the neighbours came first with a ladder to help her.

"It was the most shocking thing I've seen in all my life."

Update - 9.05am: A woman and a child are in a critical condition following a fire in Inchicore.

The woman in her 30s and an eight-year-old boy are critical while a 13-year-old boy and seven-year-old girl were also injured.

It is understood the woman is the mother of the two younger children.

Gardaí said she was critically ill in St James's Hospital.

Her eight-year-old son was taken to Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin where he was said to be also fighting for his life. The teenage boy was being treated in the same hospital.

The seven-year-old girl was taken to Temple Street Children's Hospital.

Earlier: Four people have been rescued from a fire in Inchicore in Dublin.

It is understood it broke out at around 11.15pm at an apartment block on Tyrone Place.

Five units of Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene.

A woman in her 30s and three children are said to be in a serious condition in hospital.
