'Wheelchair-accessible taxis should be cheaper'

Taxi drivers say the Government is not encouraging them to make their services more accessible to wheelchair users.

The National Taxi Drivers Union is reacting to a report from the National Disability Authority on the progress in making public transport more user-friendly for people in wheelchairs.

A wheelchair-accessible vehicle costs up to €50,000 to buy.

The Union's Vice President, Vinnie Kearns, says this price would be halved if the Government allowed them to be sold tax-free.
