'Wheelchair-accessible taxis should be cheaper'
11/01/2004 - 15:06:14Taxi drivers say the Government is not encouraging them to make their services more accessible to wheelchair users.
The National Taxi Drivers Union is reacting to a report from the National Disability Authority on the progress in making public transport more user-friendly for people in wheelchairs.
A wheelchair-accessible vehicle costs up to €50,000 to buy.
The Union's Vice President, Vinnie Kearns, says this price would be halved if the Government allowed them to be sold tax-free.
