Weekly earnings in public sector up 10% last year

Average weekly earnings in the public sector (excluding the health service) increased by almost 10% last year, according to figures published today by the Central Statistics Office.

Average weekly earnings in the public sector (excluding the health service) increased by almost 10% last year, according to figures published today by the Central Statistics Office.

The CSO said public sector workers saw their weekly earnings increase by 9.5% in the year between December 2003 and December 2004.

It also said that employment in the public sector increased by 6,700 to 345,000 over the same period.

Some 98,700 of these workers were employed in the health sector, up from 96,500 in December 2003.
