Households saved more, spent more and had more disposable income during the second half of last year, according to new figures from the CSO.

Households saved more, spent more and had more disposable income during the second half of last year, according to new figures from the CSO.

Between the second and third quarters of last year, the gross disposable income of households grew by €487m, or 2.2%, to €23bn.

Savings increased too, by €423m (to €3.68bn). Households now save an average of 16%.

Over the same period, households spent more; expenditure was up €64m to €19.3bn.
