Gardai have named the man who died following stabbing incident in Waterford last night as 25-year-old Michael O’Dwyer from Kilkenny.

Gardaí have named the man who died following stabbing incident in Waterford last night as 25-year-old Michael O’Dwyer from Kilkenny.

Emergency services were called to the house at Seafield Holiday Cottages, Tramore at around 11.30pm.

Gardaí discovered a man who was seriously injured lying outside the house. He was treated at the scene before being removed to Waterford Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí are carrying out a technical examination of the scene and the results of a postmortem examination, which is being carried out by the State Pathologist Dr. Marie Cassidy, are due later.

A 32-year-old man, who was arrested last night near the scene, is being detained under section four of the Criminal Justice act at Tramore Garda Station.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to contact the incident room at Tramore Station, and are expected to launch a murder inquiry.
