A man in his 20s will appear before a special sitting of Waterford District Court this evening, charged in connection with a serious assault.

The attack happened at the Williamstown halting site in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A 22-year-old man is in an induced coma at Cork University Hospital after suffering traumatic head injuries and a broken hand.

Two men were initially arrested as part of this investigation. One was released earlier without charge.

The second man will appear before Waterford District Court tonight.
