Gardaí in Waterford are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault in the city earlier this week.

Just before 11pm on Monday night, a 29-year-old man sustained head injuries during an incident on Priory Lawn in the Ballybeg area of the city.

He was taken by ambulance to Waterford Regional Hospital and later transferred to Cork University Hospital, where he is continuing to receive treatment.

A technical examination of the scene was carried out.

No arrests have been made at this stage.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
