Water Commission Chairman accused of being biased in favour of water charges

There are calls for the head of the Water Commission to step down.

Anti-Austerity Alliance TD Paul Murphy has accused Joe O'Toole of being biased in favour of water charges.

It's after Mr. O'Toole said that he paid his water charges and supports them, but wants to approach the work of the commission with an honest and open mind.

Deputy Murphy says it's clear that he's already decided that water charges should remain: "I think his position is now completely and utterly untenable.

"And I think now questions will be asked of can Fianna Fáil stand over this guy being chair of the Independent Water Commission considering their mandate is to oppose water charges.

"Can the independent members of the government stand over it. And we’ll have to see how Fine Gael themselves respond in the Dail tomorrow."
