Warrant issued for arrest of man charged with IRA membership
The Special Criminal Court in Dublin today issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Dublin man who was due to stand trial next week on an IRA membership charge following a garda investigation into paramilitary activity at the funeral of murdered Real IRA leader Alan Ryan in 2012.
Nathan Kinsella (aged 33) was due to stand trial next Tuesday for membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA on September 13th, 2012.
Today Detective Inspector Paul Scott told the non-jury court that gardaí have made various attempts to contact Kinsella by mobile phone and by calling to his house. He said it was a bail condition that Kinsella carried a mobile phone which had to be turned on at all times and that he observe a curfew between 9pm and 9am every day.
The Detective Inspector said that Kinsella's bailsperson had not seen him since before Christmas.
He added that the Circuit Criminal Court issued a bench warrant for his arrest last November after he failed to appear there.
Mr Justice Paul Butler, presiding, said the court would issue the bench warrant for Kinsella's arrest.
An earlier court hearing was told that Kinsella had suffered a “very traumatic injury” and his mobility was “quite debilitated”.
