War of Independence era grenade made safe in Dublin
An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe an early 20th century grenade found in a garden in Rathmines this evening.
The Defence Forces deployed the Team to the Lissenfield Area of Lower Rathmines Road following a request from the Gardai.
The badly corroded War of Independence era grenade was found by a local resident whilst they were gardening.
The Team arrived on scene at 8pm, examined the grenade in situ and rendered it safe. They have now transported the grenade back to a secure military location for further examination and it is expected it will destroyed by controlled explosion tomorrow.
The scene was declared safe at 8.25pm.
