Volkswagen owners have started getting letters saying their cars are among thousands caught up in the diesel emissions scandal.
The note confirms the vehicles are safe to carry on using, but they will need to be serviced to rectify the issue.
The process of recalling cars is expected to start in the new year.
Up to 80,000 Irish cars may be affected by the Volkswagen global emissions-rigging scandal, based on the number of new Audi, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen cars sold here between 2009 and 2014.
