VIDEO: Woman found dead with stab wounds in Cork; husband in hospital
Gardaí in Cork are treating as suspicious the death of a woman in her 60s, who was found with stab wounds.
Her body was found this morning inside a semi-detatched house on Murmont Road in Montenotte in the city.
A man who is understood to be her 68-year-old husband has been taken to the city's Mercy University Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He is expected to undergo surgery for a number of wounds.
A man in his mid-20s, who is understood to have been known to the woman, was arrested and taken to Mayfield garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
It is understood that neighbours responded to calls for help at the time of the incident. More details to follow.
The scene has been sealed off and gardaí are conducting house-to-house inquiries. Gardaí have also requested the services of the State Pathologist’s Office.
The body of the woman remains at the scene. A post mortem is due to take place later today.
The alarm was raised with gardaí after 8am this morning and they went to the scene. A HSE ambulance also attended, along with a local doctor. The woman was pronounced dead at the house.
"I knew her...She was a very nice person. It's sad...and it shook me," a neighbour said.
Another neighbour added later: "I was shocked when I heard it. It's so quiet here, the whole area is very quiet here."
