A search off West Cork for a missing man has been stood down for the night after his father and girlfriend drowned yesterday.

21-year-old Barry Davis Ryan had tried to help his girlfriend, Niamh O'Connor who was in her 20s from Glanmire, who was swept out to sea off Baltimore yesterday evening.

Kieran Cotter, Coxwain of Baltimore Lifeboat and Diver Eamonn Barry explains the conditions as the search continued for missing student Barry Davis Ryan earlier this evening.

Niamh’s remains was pulled from the sea yesterday and it has been confirmed that the other body is of Barry Ryan, the son of Primark and Penneys founder Arthur Ryan and father of Barry Davis Ryan.

The operation is due to resume at 8am in the morning.
