Over 50 dead snakes, scorpions and tarantulas have been discovered at a house in Cork city.
The Cork Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals also recovered some of the creatures alive in what they are calling a “terrible case of neglect”.

To add to the horror scenario the inspectors also found hundreds of dead cockroaches at the Douglas residence, which were being bred for feeding purposes.
Gardaí are now conducting inquiries and the HSE are said to be examining the property to assess if there is a risk to public health.
The owner of the property - who is said to live there with his wife, mother and a single child – was on holidays when the raid took place.

He has since returned home and is reported to be co-operating with the CSPCA and other agencies investigating the case.
Some of the animals found at the home were said to be so badly decomposed it is nearly impossible to tell what species they were.
CSPCA manager, Vincent Cashman told the paper: “This was a terrible case of neglect. We were shocked by the sheer scale of this operation.”
“This kind of thing can’t be done on a whim. You need to do your research and if you’re going to keep exotic pets like this, you must do it responsibly.”
He did confirm however that none of the animals are designated as endangered.
It is believed that some of the animals may have been ordered online and were brought in through the postal system.
There are now arrangements taking place to rehome the recovered living animals to Fota Wildlife Park and Tayto Park.
