A viable explosive device was discovered in a residential area of Dublin overnight.

Viable explosive made safe in residential area of Finglas

A viable explosive device was discovered in a residential area of Dublin overnight.

The army bomb squad was called to Plunkett Drive in Finglas shortly before 1am this morning.

Locals residents were evacuated and the scene was sealed off while the device was made safe, before being removed for further examination.

The area was declared safe at 1.35am.

The remains of the device have been handed over to the Gardaí to assist with their investigations.
