An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Tallaght, Dublin this morning, it has emerged.
The Defence Forces deployed to Cushlawn Park, Tallaght in Dublin following a request from the Gardaí.
The area was cordoned off by Gardaí and local residents were evacuated.
The team arrived on scene at 2.35am and examined the device which was found outside a private residence.
The device was made safe in situ and transported to a secure military location for further examination where it was declared a viable IED. The scene was declared safe at 3.20am.
The remains of the device have been handed over to gardaí to assist with their investigations.
This is the 130th callout and 64th viable IED made safe by the Army Bomb Disposal Teams so far this year.
