Fine Gael Deputy Paschal Donohue

There appears to be a diversity of opinion amongst the government partners on the issue of the closure of the Irish embassy to the Vatican.

The Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore announced the closure of the embassy last year due to economic constraints, and has insisted in a newspaper article published today that it will remain closed.

The Taoiseach has also indicated in an interview today that the decision is not up for a review in the near future.

However, Fine Gael Deputy Paschal Donohue is one of a number of the party's TDs who have said they would like to see the issue re-visited, and who belives it will be in the near future.

He said: "My understanding is that the Department of Foreign Affairs and the full Government will look at this during the rest of our term of office."
