Transport Minister Leo Varadkar is insisting there will be no firesale of Aer Lingus.

The minister has also said that the latest bid for the for the former flag carrier by Ryanair "seriously undervalues" the airline.

Minister Varadkar said the offer of €1.30 per share will be discussed by Cabinet next week, but he is uncertain as to whether the offer is even legal in terms of competition law.

"There’s a very big standing issue there in relation to the competition law," Minister Varadkar said.

“Obviously, I wouldn’t be able to recommend to my colleagues that we make any firm decision until it’s clarified as to whether we could even consider this offer as being legal or not."
