A bench dedicated to the memory of Gerry Ryan has been destroyed by vandals.

The bench, bought by the late broadcaster's partner Melanie Verwoerd, was set alight in Herbert Park in Dublin in the early hours of yesterday morning.

It is believed the vandals stole a plaque from the bench, which was inscribed with a message to the radio and television host.

Mr Ryan died in April 2010.
