USI slams 'outrageous' registration fees for college

The Union of Students in Ireland has described the cost of college registration fees as "outrageous".

It comes after new Education Minister Jan O' Sullivan said an expected further increase in the fees is likely to go ahead.

A study released yesterday by the Irish League of Credit Unions found that 80% of parents finance college costs, with more than two thirds saying they struggle to find the funds.

The annual payment is expected to reach 3,000 euro after October's budget.

USI President Laura Harmon says registration fees are having a serious impact this is having on Irish families.
